It Begins!

It is Tuesday, July 7th, 2009. I guess something like this has to begin somewhere, so here is the beginning!

I will get into more about us and or "former lives" later, but for now, I am a 56 year-old raconteur, ne'er-do-well and perhaps the most intelligent person who never amounted to anything (yet!). Life has been a blast for me, each day is an adventure waiting to happen, but the biggest downside is that I am married to a girl who has the double edged maladies of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & Bi-Polar Disorder. Unless you have lived with or with someone with either of these, you cannot imagine the nightmare life CAN be, if you allow it to be.

For me, Debbie has grounded me, while keeping me from achieving real success in life through the effects of her problems. Thankfully, she has been on effective medication for many years now and we have almost a normal life, if there is such a thing.

Perhaps the worst mistake we ever made in our 30 years together, was to move to Florida from Texas. In Texas I was a successful sales manager. In Florida, I am an over-the-road truck driver! Florida and her people, do not suit us at all, while Texas, is home ans she has been calling to us since we crossed the Sabine River in July of 1990, headed for the chaos known as "Florida".

For reasons that will come in future posts, we have decided NOW to sell out and move back to Texas. But not back to Houston, or Dallas, or El Paso. Nothing that simple! We are headed to a 20 acre patch of flat desert near Terlingua, smack in the middle of both nowhere and the Chihuahuan Desert!

Astoundingly, this odyssey is all Debbie's idea! Oh, I will love it and will have a blast, but SHE wanted to move there, to live there to build what has come to be called an "Earthship", there!

So this blog will be the chronicle of our journey from the hideous, inbred sewage that is north Florida, to the pristine desert of west Texas and her like-minded hermits and assorted oddballs! Believe me, it is no easy task to execute, let alone plan and the planning is where I am now.......

This evening was spent searching the search engines for 36"diameter plastic pipe for our air conditioning system out there. No one needs to be told that the search engines are exactely like that TV ad for "bing.com", only far worse! I finally found 6 manufacturers that MIGHT make this pipe> I won't know until they answer my e-mails though...... the last four weeks have been like this as I plan and find suppliers.

But THAT, is for another day. These posts will be infrequent, as I will soon return to my wonderful and rewarding carreer as a truck driver, until we sell our farm in the post-Bush apocalypse left to be rescued by our new President!
